Ive been tossing around the idea of getting rid of the Facebook. All I ever do on it is post stupid status updates and snarky remarks on other peoples updates. Ive tried a couple times now but always had a "good" reason for keeping it. "Well, I should collect the contact info of people I might want to get hold of later." "I just printed business cards that have a link to the Facebook page." "There isnt anyone on Google+ to read my stupid status updates or for me to ad snarky remarks about." Im pretty pissed that Im having trouble with this.

Playoffs Here we Come

Its been an exciting season. As expected the Lions finished 10-6 and are in the playoffs as a wild card seed. Not only is this a winning season with a playoff spot but, with the exception of the Bears, they only lost to teams that will also be in the playoffs. Unfortunately, this also means that they have lost to all the teams in the NFC playoffs but the Cowboys. It looks like theyll be playing the Saints in New Orleans next week. This will probably be the last time Stafford and the boys suit up this season. But, who knows. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Look at what the Cardinals did a few years back.

About two months ago I posted about a beautiful tent that I wanted. Well, I was fortunate enough to receive it as a gift today. This makes me one happy camper. And as of 6-4 minutes ago I made a reservation in June at Young State Park so I can be happy while camping. Well, its the Christmas. Weve completed two celebrations and have five to go over the next two days. The only thing that I enjoy about all this is seeing Jack get excited. A couple days ago we told him about how Meijer will be closed and there wont be any cars in the parking lot. Last night we were talking about Christmas again and the thing he was most excited about was an empty parking lot!

Im sitting here, having just eaten a declisious PBnJ, wavy potato chips and a cool glass of Lactaid milk waiting for my bowels to move so I can take a shower. (Its just easier that way some times.) I havent been to a doctor to confirm it but I feel like my body hasnt been tolerating the lactose as well as it should be. For Jaimes birthday, Apryl made the most heavenly cheese cake Id ever eaten. About 64 minutes after eating it (2 slices) you could have renamed my toilet Pompeii and my butt Mt Vesuvious. (Keep in mind this didnt stop me from having more the next day! Heavenly.) I tried the Silk but do not enjoy the way it tastes or the texture of it. This Lactaid stuff is actual milk and tastes like it. Im excited that I can now enjoy one of my favorite lunches again. Even at breakfast time!

Oh man, the tent I want (Eureka Copper Canyon 1312) is at the lowest price Ive ever seen it on Amazon right now. This is the tent Ive wanted for a very long time now. Yes Jaime, I have been looking at it for a long time. Its well reviewed and while its big, its not frickin huge like the one we have now. Speaking of which, our current tent has two broken poles so we need to replace it before next season.

The 3 of you who read this may have seen this already. Im not concerned with that. I love it. Right now Ive got the full beard (denial) but its kinda (very) patchy and quickly going homeless. I would like to trim it but I dont want to lose much length so clippers are out and I dont want to pay to have it barbered. (Barbered is a real word? Who knew?) I try combing it but that doesnt do anything. Id like to make it to the philosopher but it will probably end up werewolf style. After watching Twilight Ive considered myself on team Edward so I dont know how being a werewolf makes me feel. I think Ill give it a try. Until May anyway.

Why Im Happy The Lions Lost

While Id love for the Lions to have gone 16-0, it wasnt going to happen. They needed to lose. Perhaps they should have already lost. Now they can look at what theyve been doing wrong and figure out what needs to be done to fix. Prior to this loss, any misgivings they may have had about their faults were easily dismissed by the fact that they won. Im glad it happened at this point in the season. Im glad it happened at the hands of a good, perhaps great, team. I believe that theyll learn from this and it will make them a better team. I still think theyll go at least 10 and 6 and that should be all they need to get to the playoffs.

We watched Inglorious Bastards (Watch it.) Friday night and I fell asleep by 1030. So we finished it up last night and I was able to stay up. At only 10 oclock, we flipped through the basic cable and came across Mean Girls. (Watch it.) It had just started so we started watching it. Midnight came around and just the right number of girls had been hit by buses. I didnt fall asleep. In fact Ill say I enjoyed it more than IB. Looks like this time boobs win.

Chris and The Easter Bunny

Every year, after the snow had melted, spring was in the air and the last candy heart had been eaten, the chicks harvested the fresh candy crops, packaged the candy in brightly colored eggs and delivered it to peoples houses.

One year a bad man named Chris came and ruined the Easter festivities that the chicks put on. (This is the same bad man that almost stole Christmas from Santa Clause several years earlier.) He would gather all the people together in giant buildings called churches where they would learn all about hope and salvation. The chicks tried to get to the peoples houses before they left but they were too slow.

Years went by and more and more people didnt care about the chicks or their candy. They all kept going to hear about what Chris did. Not sure what to do, the chicks went to see Santa and find out how he beat Chris. Santa told them of a wonderful company called Hallmark. The good people at Hallmark had given Santa all kinds of ideas like hiring a reindeer with a bright glowing nose and changing his name from Kris Kringle to Santa Clause. They would certainly be able to help the chicks.

After meeting with the people at Hallmark it was decided they needed someone who was fast and hip who could bring all the eggs to peoples houses before they left Easter morning. After searching and searching they found a bunny. He dressed in nothing but the coolest brightly colored vests and bow ties. Had amazing wicker baskets that had special pastel grass to keep the eggs safe. And he was quick. Much quicker then the chicks could ever be. He was able to get to everyones house before they woke up in the morning. Not only that but he was so fast that he even had time to hide the eggs in their houses.

Despite his best efforts, Chris was eventually forgotten. Giant chocolate statures of the bunny were built. Kids got to eat more candy then ever. And everyone had enough candy to make it to Mothers Day.

Vegetable Oil
1 Sweet Onion, Diced
1 tablespoon Minced Garlic
1 pound Ground Beef
1 Green Bell Pepper, Diced
1 Red Bell Pepper, Diced
2 cans Stewed Tomatoes, Italian Recipe
1 can Tomato Paste
1 tablespoon Chili Powder
2 tablespoons Brown Sugar

Directions

In a large skillet, sauté onions in vegetable oil until translucent, add garlic for one minute, add ground beef until browned, drain.
In a 3 quart crock pot mix all ingredients and cook on low for 4 hours or until done.

Apparently terrorists tried to blow up a bus about 100 yards away from my work today with some artist supplies. It wasnt as glamorous as you might think. Sandra Bullock didnt even show yup. They didnt succeed thank goodness. Grand Rapids finest sent out the bomb squad and in a mere 4 hours, the robot had the threat neutralized. Hopefully theyll crack down on those liberal artistic types at the Kendal University and find out whos leaving their boxes lying around willy nilly for the enemies of this country to do their worst with.

Divisional Round 10

Well I was right about the Jets, Ravens and Packers but look at those Sea Hawks upsetting the Saints. Looks like home team advantage is still a huge advantage. Unfortunately they wont have that in Chicago tomorrow. If the Sea Hawks are going to move on (which I dont think they will) the Bears will have to beat themselves. On the other side of the NFC I think the Packers win on the road in Atlanta.

AFC were looking at the Partiots over the Jets. Rex Ryans boys cant get it done in New England. Its just not going to happen. Probably the best game this weekend will be the Ravens and the Steelers. It should be a big time defense battle and I think the end score is 9-6, Ravens.

OK so the Pats beat out the Jets for the division. Theyre both in the playoffs. The Chargers proved to be the most disappointing team of the year.

So I guess the Bears arent who I thought the were. Packers still made it but have a harder road to travel. What else is going to happen next week? Honestly I dont think there will be any surprises. In the AFC the Jets should beat the Colts, Ravens over the Chiefs. The only game Im not sure about is the Eagles and Packers. Im going to have to go with the Packers. Theyre on fire right now. Also I think the Vick problem has been solved. Get to him and hit him a lot.

Million Dollar Baby Drop

Were watching this fancy new Money Drop show. Ever since Who Wants to be a Millionaire, TV execs have been trying to find the next best way to dangle $1,000,000 in front of contestants on brightly lit plexiglass stages, while "clever" hosts make them wait for the the correct answers. While several of these have been exciting for a couple episodes, non of them have been that great. (I did like those Deal or no Deals.) This one, I predict, will be no different. At the most they get through seven questions in one episodes. Thats seven questions in one hour of show. WTF?! Give me half an hour of Trebek and sixty one questions any day. Perhaps they could add some booby girls to the Jeopardy but thats about it.

Immigration Policy

After Senior Obama has completed his 8 years in 2016 Ill be old enough to run for President. I wont be a Democrat or Republican. I plan to run for president under the newly formed "Beard" party. Most likely youll have to right me in but nobody said change was easy.

Second on my agenda (second only to the abolition of apostrophes) will be addressing this whole immigration problem that seems to be so popular right now. The first thing Ill do is take all our troops and boats and guns and other things that kill people that are scattered all around the world and bring them home. They will then protect our borders. By borders I dont just mean an imaginary line across a piece of land. I mean the ports, the harbors, the airports and anywhere that a foreigner can get into the country.

Anyone who wants to enter (or leave for that matter) must have some general biometric info on file and if they do and are considered a good guy they may enter and exit freely. If theyre a terrorist they have to leave.

I also intend to make our imaginary line borders a lot easier to protect. All told we have over 12,000 kilometers (#3 on the agenda is getting on with the metric system.) of land borders, nearly 3/4 of which is with those Hockey lovers to the North. I intend for us to only have one land border and its only going to be about 80 kilometers long. You may already know it as the Panama Canal. In other words, were uniting with everything from the big ditch north.

So, if you live in Mexico now and would like to be in the same country as Arizona, California or Texas, do your part to elect me president in 2016. I promise a new nation that I will call North America and there you will be free to walk through the desert as you see fit.

Ive been watching the World Cup a lot these last couple of weeks. The group round is pretty slow but now its starting to get interesting now that there to the round of 16. I love that the game has suppressed technology for years but I think they need to at least do something with goal line technology. A goal is a goal is a goal is a goal. I know it starts you down a slippery slope but hopefully FIFA can learn from the NFL and others who let the game get ruined with instant replay.

Ive lost 6.4 pounds in the last 2 weeks. Ive been counting calories. 2,000 a day. Hopefully by next week Ill be back down to 190 pounds. At that point Im going to up my count to 2,500. I think this week Im going to start exercising again.

Yesterday at work a bunch of middle schoolers were on a field trip doing karaoke before we opened. As they were standing in line to get on the bus to leave one of the girls pulled a dollar out of her pocket. A boy then got down on his knees and put his face in the snow for what seemed like 64 seconds. He then stood up and the girl gave him the dollar. Awesome! If this is the next generation then we have nothing to fear.

We took Jackie B to the doctor for his 15 month the other day. We were a little worried because we dont have insurance anymore. That wasnt going to stop us from getting our little man taken care of though. So, without insurance a routine Drs apt with vaccinations, costs out of pocket about half of what it cost us when we did have insurance. All that time, when I was doing things right, had the "good" job with the health care which was eating up nearly 25% of my take home, only to have to pay about a bazillion more in copays and then by the time my deductible was met for the year the year ends. FUCK YOU!

More then two years ago I got it in my head that I was going to buy a big old F-250 and run it on used fryer grease. Well I got the truck a year and a half ago and didnt drive it much while we were in Phoenix. Now back in MI and delivering pizzas full time again, I drive the shit out of that bad boy. I still havent installed the Golden Fuel System in it but I am happy to say that Ive put 400 miles on the truck in the last 10 days and one third of the fuel was used fryer grease. For a little over a week now Ive been running a 1 part grease 2 parts diesel fuel mix and its working out splendidly. I cant run straight veg yet but its a start.

A year ago I weighed 205.5 pounds. Today I weigh 196.9 pounds. So I lost 8.4 pounds last year. Not bad I guess. Its just sad knowing I was in the 170s for a while. Oh well. Time to look on the bright side and get things moving again. This time next year hopefully I can say Ive lost and kept off 16.8 pounds.

Christmas: Its not Just for Christians Anymore

Because I couldnt really figure out what this post was about but still felt like I had to argue or disagree or perhaps agree with it, here you go...

Christmas is three things and people choose to observe them to varying degrees. First and formost Christmas is the celebration of the birth of baby Jesus and his coming to earth to save us from our sins. Second, Christmas is a time to gather with loved ones. Third, it is a time to give gifts.

People in North America who get upset that their company has a Christmas party are idiots. The whole "holiday" swap is about as stupid as calling French fries Freedom fries. You dont have a holiday tree. Its a Christmas tree. You dont put a pine tree in your house and decorate it for Thanksgiving, New Years, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Boxing Day. You do it for Christmas, baby Jesus or no baby Jesus.

There is no reason why a non Christian family cant celebrate Christmas. As I stated above, in addition to a really big birthday party, Christmas is a time to spend with loved ones and give gifts. Our economy depends on it. What I would find strange would be an NCF that has a manger scene in the front yard, or giving birth in a stable. Those parts of Christmas shouldnt be observed by non Christians.

I dont know why it would be difficult for someone to explain the manger scene. Its a depiction of the birth of baby Jesus. Thats what it is regardless of weather or not you believe that Jesus was born or not. Just like Peter Pan and the Vietnam war. Weather or not you believe theyre real has nothing to do with explaining what they are.

So Bri, Im not sure if I agreed with you or disagreed with you but Im pretty sure someone is upset. (Though I dont know who.)

I quit my main job yesterday. In just under 2 weeks I will no longer be employed as a mechanic. Ill be delivering pizzas full time now rather then doing it to supplement the lack of mechanics work. Now Ill be turning wrenches to supplement so if you need any work done let me know.

The primary reason I quit was lack of income. I was able to make up for it driving Friday and Saturday night but yesterday I was told that Id have to be available those nights so I quit. Jaime and I had already talked about the possibility of me quiting and I had made sure I could work full time at The Village.

The only thing Im worried about is insurance. We might be able to get insurance through Jaimes work and shes also looking into MI Child for Jack. Honestly weve been pretty frustrated with my insurance so Im not entirely sad to see it go. Jack went in for his 1 year check up and vaccinations a couple months ago. We got the statement from the insurance company and the total cost was $468 of which they covered just over $55. I was furious. We pay over $3,200 a year for coverage on Jack and I and thats what we get? Fuck that. This was all routine stuff. Nothing fancy or unnecessary. Hopefully congress will get health insurance all straightened out, but thats another post.

In the end Im happy with the decision and am excited to be delivering again. If you know anyone looking to get rid of a TDI VW Golf or Rabbit let me know.

I just spent 25 minutes on the phone to have Jaime added to my insurance. The majority of the time was spent listening to some smooth jazz while on hold. Im pretty sure I only talked to a person for about 64 seconds.

I dont know what socialized health care would mean for me. But I cant imagine it could be worse. What Id like to see is government provided preventative health care. Every year, say during your birthday month, youd be able to go to the doctor and have a complete check up done. Twice a year youd be able to go to the dentist and have a cleaning and x-rays. Routine vaccinations would be covered. Basically, anything that most doctors recommend you do to prevent yourself from getting sick should be covered by some government sponsored health care. I really dont know much more about it all other then Im tired of paying thousands of dollars a year for coverage for my family and then also having to turn around and pay hundreds more in deductables and copays just to get simple checkups done.

I hate racism. It bothers me when people assume they know things about people based solely on their appearance and I try to take a stand whenever I can. Not just to let the people know that they are bad people but to let them know that stereotypes arent always, and in fact are very rarely correct.

I hate when people feel that they have to live up to stereo types. If you happen to fit a stereo type, fine. Just dont think that youre limited to it.

I discriminate against people. I dont treat heterosexual adult white men the same way as I treat everyone else. I have the white mans guilt and am terrified that anything I say or do will be construed as discriminatory so I treat people not like myself better then I would treat those who are like me.

I like to joke about racism. Not make jokes about people because of their race. Rather I make jokes about treating things differently because of something they cant control.

Work has been really slow lately. Im not making as much as I used to. The days take a lot longer.

Were going camping in a couple weeks. Im so excited. I cant wait to get away from everything and just sit around and do nothing. Its going to be great to swim in lake Charlevoix. Its going to be great to burn things.

Im still torn about what to do for a computer. I really want a MacBook but I really want to not spend a gazillion dollars on a computer. The main reason I want a Mac is because they arent as susceptible to viri. I also really like iPhoto and the rest of the iLife suite. Now from what I understand, Windows has something similar and I could always download Picasa and do it Google style. I dont know much about either of those though so if you use any of them tell me what you think.

My boss doesnt know how to approve vacation time in the computer. This worries me.

25 Years and My Life is Still

Its my birthday in a couple days. Ill be 30 years old. 30 isnt old. Its just strange to think that I wont be in my 20s anymore. I already had a mid life crisis about 10 years ago when I bought leather pants and a 2 door convertible. Its also hard to believe that Ive been with Jaime for 1/3 of my life.

Its time for a new computer. The computer Im using now is the computer Jaime and I got when we first got married. Two summers ago we got a used computer from a guy at work but that puked out on us in February. The old Gateway is still chugging along with its 256MB of ram and 1.6GHz processor but she doesnt like running more then 2 programs at a time and the sound isnt working. Im hoping to get a MacBook Pro and one of those fancy wireless Mighty Mouses.

64tacos almost went the way of Katohater.com. Renewal time came along and I realized I hadnt posted here in nearly 3 months. In the end I decided to give it another year. TheDeVrieses.com is hosted on the same server so I would have had to get rid of that as well if I didnt renew and that was the deciding factor.

Living in someone elses house is a very difficult thing to do.

I love the water. We went out on Lake Michigan and it was beautiful. Water for as far as the eye can see. I cant wait to go camping. Hopefully well be able to fit it in this summer.

I got a fancy new phone. I have the new Blackberry Storm and it is awesome. I can connect to any form of communication that I already use all in one pocket sized device. Im pretty sure its going to get me fired because I just want to play with it all day at work.

Smoking. I am a smoker. I havent smoked a cigarette in 2 years and 8 months, but I am a smoker. After every meal I think about smoking. Every time I see someone on TV or in a movie smoking Im reminded just how wonderful it is. The anti smoking adds make me want to smoke. Just typing this makes me want a cigarette. I love smoking. I am addicted to more then just nicotine and I dont think that I will ever overcome that. Not that Ive had a hard life but not smoking is the hardest thing I have ever done. The hardest part is, its not something that you do and then its done. Its something that you are constantly doing, every day, every hour and every minute of your life.

When I lived in Grand Rapids, Neil and I had an ongoing bet. Whoever smoked first had to pay the other person $64. We would take turns smoking first and the actual money never crossed hands. There would be times where we would call a temporary "cease fire" and both of us would smoke freely for a predetermined amount of time. This bet was a big help for me. I think it helped Neil out too. It was good to have someone to go through the quiting with. Someone to hold you accountable. Someone to be understanding when you failed.

Neil owes me $64. He was the last to lose the bet. Somehow I cant help but feel a little bit responsible for his failure though. Every time he smokes it reminds me of my own struggle. Im not going to require payment of this debt when we get back. I would like to propose a new bet though. So Neil, starting on June 4th, If youre willing, Id like to restart our bet. I have a feeling that Im going to need the extra incentive being back in GR and I know youre still struggling with it.

I would also like to congratulate you on going 2 days without smoking this past weekend. Thats 2 less days of smoking and every day you dont smoke counts.

Thats how we roll. At least, thats how we are planning on rolling when we go back. In 64 days well be picking up a U Haul trailer and loading it, the Jeep and Truck with all our worldly possessions. My mom and Bruce are flying out to help us with the drive. Theyll be driving Jaimes Patriot while Jaime, Jack, Hudson and I pull the U Haul trailer with my truck.

Im very excited about this trip for a couple reasons. Im ready for a road trip and 2000 miles definitely qualifies. Im excited to put my truck to the test. Ive used some of its capabilities taking scrap metal to the junk yard but I havent used it to tow anything yet. Mostly though Im excited to be going back to Michigan. Im excited for trees, and forests and grass. Im excited for Festival and cookouts and Mario Kart Tournaments. Im excited about the chance to buy a house. We should be gone before we get too many 110 degree days here and then in a couple months it will be winter. Winter as I know and love it. The most important thing is that well be close to most of our friends and Jack will be able to spend time with most of his family. (Aunt Jenna and uncle Brett need to move back to Grand Rapids now too.)

Thats not to say I wont miss some things about Phoenix. It will suck not being close to Zac and Teresa. I love the mountians. 99 percent of the cars here dont have any real rust on them so work is easy.

I am a very bad speller. Its not hard to tell when Ive used spell checker and when I havent. I dont spell well.

Anyone who looks at Zac and Teresa for just one second will think, WHAT? Hes 8'3" hunched over and shes, at best, 3'8" with heals on. Zac is a dorky looking white boy from the midwest and Teresa is a beautiful Mexican girl from Arizona. But anyone who spends more then one second with them, immediately knows that despite their obvious differences they are two perfectly fitting pieces of a puzzle. So heres to Zac and Teresa and a long life of happiness.

Were in a bit of a cool down here in Phoenix. Its only going to be in the low 70s for the rest of the week. Im not complaining about it being in the 70s. Im complaining about a snowless winter. Next year it will not be this way.

In good news, the Arizona Cardinals are headed to the Super Bowl. After about week 12 most people had pretty much given up on the Cards. I sure as hell did. It was a given that they were going to make the playoffs but there was no way theyed be able to beat a playoff caliber team. Well here they are, having beaten 3 playoff teams, one game away from being the world champions. Go Cardinals!

LOST is back. Last nights 2 hour premier was great. We got to find out "where" The Island went. The lady that wouldnt sell Desmond the ring is back. Kate is on the run again. And we got to see the guy from the Dharma orientation videos.

The weight loss has been going very well. Im right on pace to be at my Phoenix record by the end of the month. Its been a nice distraction from everything else thats been going on. Its also been nice being cheered on every now and then by you guys. Also I think Bri is right about the whole accountability thing. When I have to post that Ive gained weight (even though it hasnt happened much) I always cringe a little bit. Why the heck did I eat all those potatoes? I ask myself. When the "easy" 15 pounds is gone Im planning on slowing it down a lot. Its easy to loss those pounds when youre starting nearly 64 pounds over weight. I dont think Ill ever get down to 145. I like eating way to muchh. I will say that its nice to fit into my fat cloths again.
