Back to the USSR
OK, so while Im not upset that Amanda Overmyer went home, I dont think this was the week for it. This week should have been Kristie Lee Cook or Ramiele. While proving she doesnt have anything more to contribute then a mediocre Joplin impersonation, Overmyer did kill (in a good way) Back in the USSR. It was one of her best performances, I think. Kristie and Ramiele are boring and useless and one of them should have gone home. Oh well, at least we wont have to look at her giant for head anymore.
This year they decided to allow people to play instruments for the first time. This has been both good and bad. Brook White proved that she has a place in the contest when she played the piano on Let it be. Jason Castro played a beautiful acoustic guitar when he sang Hallelujah. It really bothers me when they use the instrument as a prop. Like when David Cook "played" guitar on Eleanor Rigby and then brought out the talk box on Day Tripper. Not to mention Chikezie and his harmonica this week. Heres my unsolicited advice. If youre just going to stand there and hold the instrument the whole time then dont bring it up with you. If youre actually going to play it and it adds to the song then use an instrument.
