Do you need help with your lants?
E-Mail style. What ever happened to the "-" in email?
Don't even start, Mr. We-Don't-Need-Apostrophes.
Well, we don-t need them.
In spoken form, we don't need them. In written form, they are rather helpful.
"Were going to the mall."
You brain parses this as "were" not "we're", so you are losing readability when you have to go back and reparse for the omitted apostrophe form.
"Well sled tonight."
This is ambiguous.
Parse 1: "We'll sled tonight."
Parse 2: "Well sled tonight." (You did well with your badass sledding skills this evening.)
Parse 2 is unlikely to ever be said, but without the apostrophe, we can't be certain can we?
"James dog went to Chow Hound."
Possessive forms are tough in general because no one seems to know where to put the apostrophe. Is it "Jame's", "James's", or "James'"? But without the apostrophe, it's almost as if someone is oddly saying that a dog named James went to Chow Hound.
In conclusion, I feel I've given plenty of evidence for the necessity of apostrophes for disambiguation purposes. You are welcome to argue that we don't need contracted or possessive forms at all (like many languages), and I would tend to agree. But apostrophes are necessary information in written form. Just because someone can eventually get to your intended meaning does not mean it should be written that way all the time.
Well put apostrophes through''t this post!
Next, Ill petition to have vowels removed. Wouldn't that be sick?
